About big sky sun projects internationalBig Sky Sun Projects International (BSSPI) is a registered 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit public charity based in Missoula, Montana. We believe that none of us can identify the wellspring that will produce the next Mother Teresa, Marie Curie, Gandhi, Mandela, Mozart, or Marley. The innate potential of every person -- not just the poor -- is constrained by poverty, lack of education, sickness, and environmental degradation. By unleashing these bonds, the human spirit can soar. BSSPI seeks to unlock human potential by helping struggling individuals and communities meet their basic needs while preserving their local environment. We have no religious, political, or ethnic affiliation or agenda. In the field, BSSPI staff work closely with like-minded volunteers and native non-profit and community-based organizations, leveraging local knowledge, fostering ownership, and keeping lines between donor and beneficiary short, direct, and efficient. Since needs and capabilities vary, we take an integrated approach to local education, health, and environmental circumstances. Most of our projects are designed to become self-sustaining; some are humanitarianism in its simplest form. In Myanmar, we arrange surgeries for poor children with correctible birth defects. We intervene to help poor families cope with medical catastrophe. We enable locally-directed English language programs for disadvantaged children. We assist an upland community in building an education dormitory for geographic orphans. Finally, we are striving to harness the potential of the sun to bring renewable energy security to villages in darkness. In Cambodia, we are working with village leaders who are striving to rehabilitate a local forest, protect local environmental resources, and preserve a cultural heritage site damaged by war. We are building adult education programs coupled to microfinance opportunities that will empower women and men affected by deforestation to take charge of their lives. Welcome to Big Sky Sun Projects International. We are happy you came.
