Our Board of Directors comprises more than sixty years experience working on challenging projects in unusual locations around the globe – along with cultural and environmental knowledge, they bring to the organization a remarkable blend of managerial expertise, dedication, compassion, and energy.
Dan Tarter, Founder / Executive Director
Dan is a former US Army Colonel and Foreign Area Officer. As an Olmsted Scholar, Dan spent two years living in northern Thailand studying the upland cultures of Southeast Asia. He has served as a soldier and diplomat in Thailand, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Myanmar (Burma), Korea, Panama and Germany. A lifelong uplander himself, Dan lives in Montana.
Gordon M. Hembree, Vice President
A gifted linguist, Gordon “Mack” Hembree is a foreign area specialist with extraordinary experience on projects ranging from South America to the Horn of Africa to Southeast Asia. In 2008, Mack founded the Beyond Rangoon Project, a grassroots effort focused on aiding the victims of Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar’s Irrawaddy Delta.
Terry E. Dokken, Secretary / Treasurer
An environmental engineer, white water pilot, and lifelong outdoorsman, Terry has thirty years consulting experience on environmental and waste water treatment problems in diverse locations around the world. Terry makes his home in Missoula, Montana.
